Colin Robinson
Senior Advisor
Colin Robinson is a professor of economics at the University of Surrey and editorial director of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) in London. Previously, he worked for eleven years as a business economist, primarily in the oil industry. He advises clients on energy, particularly in the areas of utility economics, policy, forecasting and privatization. He has appeared as an expert witness in numerous legal proceedings and has presented evidence to the House of Commons Committee on Energy and the House of Lords Committee on the EC.
Professor Robinson is a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society and of the Institute of Petroleum. He is also a member of the Mergers and Monopolies Commission Electricity Panel. Previously, he was a member of the Secretary of State for Energy's Advisory Council on Research and Development in Fuel and Power, and before the industry was privatized, he was a member of the Electricity Research Panel.
A prolific author, Professor Robinson has written or co-written twenty-three books and monographs and well over two hundred papers on energy and utility issues.
Professor Robinson has a first class honours degree in economics from the University of Manchester.
