John C. Staines, Jr.
Principal

John Staines specializes in damages estimation and economic and financial analysis of R&D-intensive industries and international trade cases. He has assessed damage claims in a variety of industries and contexts, including breach of contract and patent infringement disputes in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology, computer, wood products and athletic shoe industries. He has also performed analyses of competition, market segmentation, optimal product mix and business valuation for pharmaceutical industry clients. In the area of international trade, Mr. Staines has analyzed economic injury to U.S. producers resulting from unfairly traded imports in the uranium production and steel manufacturing industries.

Before joining PHB, Mr. Staines was a senior research analyst at Heiden Associates, Inc., where he conducted economic analysis in support of antitrust and international trade cases, industry impact studies of environmental and occupational health regulations and risk assessments related to consumer product safety regulations and product liability litigation.

Mr. Staines received a B.A. in economics and an M.P.M. in public policy from the University of Maryland and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.
